Do Chinese Family Values Inhibit Entrepreneurship?—An Analytical Perspective Based on Hofstede’s Cultural Dimension

Using the data of China Family Tracking Survey (CFPS) Peking University, this paper systematically studies influence Chinese family cultural values on entrepreneurship. Based Hofstede’s national culture theory and from five dimensions collectivism, power distance, masculinity, long-term orientation uncertainty avoidance, further constructs a comprehensive index values. Through endogeneity test, it is found that significantly improve number entrepreneurs, but not quality entrepreneurs. Among them, masculinity promote entrepreneurship, while distance avoidance inhibit it. Meanwhile, entrepreneurial spirit male group, rural group low-education more influenced by traditional Further research shows with improvement regional marketization level, digital level institutional environment represented inclusive finance, negative impact entrepreneurship can be effectively reduced, positive also reduced.
